The brief
Khokakhola and the Artkaaj workshop needed a small library of pixel animations to push out across social — short looping clips that could carry a personality on Instagram and read at thumbnail size. The constraint was tight: characters had to be legible at sixty-four pixels across, and each loop had to hold attention for at least three full cycles.
Process
Each character was designed first as a static at full size — colour palette locked in before any frame was drawn. Animation in Aseprite, six to twelve frames per loop, hand-shaded with one light and one shadow tone. Timing tested at native pixel size before any upscale, so the motion never relied on smoothing to feel right.
Outcome
A growing set of loops in active rotation across the studios' social channels — frame-by-frame work that has held up across reposts, screenshots, and the unflattering compression of mobile feed.
