About this work
Built up in oil over four sittings. The under-painting is a transparent burnt umber wash, dried two days, then glazed in ultramarine and Prussian blue with a small bristle brush. The smoke is the last pass — wet-into-wet, scumbled with a soft mop. The eye sits at the rule-of-thirds intersection so the smoke can spiral around it without competing.
